Prof. Dr. Tobias Knuth
Short Profile
Prof. Dr Tobias Knuth researches the application of data mining and artificial intelligence at the interface of computer science, statistics, economics and society.
After studying economics, he completed his doctorate in 2014 to 2018 through HSBA's cooperative doctoral programme at Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland on the question of how machine learning methods can be used to prevent fraud in online mail order. He presented his research results at international conferences in the USA, the UK and the Netherlands. In 2018, Professor Knuth received the Dr Heinz Sebiger Prize of the DATEV Foundation Future for his dissertation, which is awarded for outstanding dissertations in the field of IT security and digitalisation.
Since 2015, Professor Knuth has taught subjects such as quantitative research methods, statistics and algorithms at Hamburg universities, including the HSBA; he also organises an interest group on the topic of data science with over 1000 members.
After a research year at HSBA on the topic of artificial intelligence in (online) marketing and e-business, which was funded by the Claussen-Simon Foundation, the expert in business informatics set up his own business in September 2021 and has since been working for various clients as a data scientist, consultant and software developer. He has also been a professor of business informatics at FOM since 2022.
