We would like to welcome you to this special evening moderated by Ian K. Karan and for the subsequent gathering:

“The Cement for Living Together: Public Media as a Binding Element of a Society” (in German)
with Tom Buhrow, journalist & WDR intendant,
on Thursday, 6 June 2019, from 6.30 pm
in the Auditorium, SQUARE HSBA Innovation Hub, Adolphsplatz 6,20457 Hamburg.

It is not uncommon for us Europeans to take a look at the USA as if we were gazing into a crystal sphere, to at least get an idea of how the situation in Europe could develop. For some years now, a glance into this sphere has shown a strongly polarising media landscape - which seems to have led, among other things, to a strongly polarised society. Public broadcasting as it exists in Europe - an independent voice without commercial interests, focussing on neutral and objective reports - hardly exists in the US. What consequences does this have for society? Which examples can Europe draw from this example? Conclusions that might be useful – facing a situation of public broadcasting being under pressure in Denmark, Switzerland and Germany.
