Accommodation:You should secure on-campus accommodation as quickly as possible, otherwise, all the group rooms and single rooms might be taken. If you don’t arrange accommodation in time, you might end up with a very small room without a kitchen in the building. Additionally, it's important to remember the building number where you're staying, otherwise, you might spend a long time searching for your name. Once you've arrived at your room, it's common to go to Ikea together to buy items that make the room feel more homey.
Transportation:You can take the university-organized airport shuttle from Shanghai or use the high-speed train, which is not more expensive. Locally, the easiest way to get around is by using the Chinese version of "Uber" or public transportation. Just keep in mind that buses don’t have fixed departure times, so you might end up waiting over an hour for a bus. "Hello-Bikes" are also highly recommended.
Food:There are many different cafeterias on campus that are open daily from morning until evening, offering a wide variety of food. In general, food in China is very affordable.
Activities:China is a very safe country, so traveling alone is not dangerous. The only barrier is the language, as most people outside the university don’t speak English. However, the dictation function of translation apps can be very helpful.
